A Study on Changes and of Disability-Related Terms and Meaning of the Changes

Abstract
Disability-related terms have expressed variously with states, situations of the times, disciplines, and philosophical paradigm on disability.
Generally "special" means special characteristics and peculiarity in the field of special education and the goal of motivation and behavior modification has been emphasized in the aspect of learning in education. Traditionally disability-related terms are closely related with medical terms in the field of special education in history and medical terms have been naturally used in the field of special education. However, medical terms are often criticized because they often describe disability situations of children with disabilities fixedly and it can make the roles of education narrow in special education. The change in disability-related terms has been made from medical model to economic model and socio-political model with its focus on USA.
It is considered that special education-related disability terms have varied sensitively with states, related disciplines, and changes in philosophical paradigm on people with disability of the times.
Based on this, this study is intended to examine the changes of disability-related terms and meaning of the changes in the field of special education.
